Happy New Year!!! I hope everyone was able to spend some quality time with their friends and family through the holidays and 2025 is treating you all well. Here we are folks, I’m back for v.3 of Commish’s Corner and we are coming into the half way point of the 2024-25 DTNBA Season.
Another reminder to all that the trade deadline is quickly approaching, under a month away to potentially make those moves to acquire the final piece to your puzzle. – Monday, Feb. 17th, 2025: DTNBA Trade Deadline (3 p.m. ET). Right before the trade deadline we also move into the 2nd Round of Rule Change Proposals on Monday, Feb. 10th, 2025 and I would ask that GM’s start getting more specific with the changes they would potentially like to see implemented for next season.
Observations/spicy takes almost half way through the season:
Current TOP 10 Power Ranking: 1. Philadelphia 76ers (36-4) | 2. New Orleans Pelicans (32-6) | 3. Golden State Warriors (33-7) | 4. Sacramento Kings (35-8) | 5. Miami Heat (30-8) | 6. Memphis Grizzlies (27-9) | 7. San Antonio Spurs (29-10) | 8. Oklahoma City Thunder (28-10) | 9. Los Angeles Lakers (26-11) | 10. Milwaukee Bucks (25-14) | Notable Team on the edge: New York Knicks (27-16)
- Current Notable Streaks (as of posting):
* Pelicans | 17 game win streak, with only 1 loss in their last 31 games
* 76ers | 15 game win streak, with only 1 loss in their last 26 games
* Kings | 9 game win streak, with only 2 losses in their last 19 games
* Spurs | 4 game win streak, with only 3 losses in their last 20 games
* Rockets | 7 game losing streak, with only 2 wins in their last 16 games
* Trail Blazers | 6 game losing streak, with only 4 wins in their last 14 games
* Jazz | 4 game losing streak, with only 6 wins in their last 26 games - Biggest surprises: How quiet the trade market has been thus far in 2025. I thought we would have had a little more action by now being that it is so close to the DEADLINE.
- 76ers have been impressive in their last 26 with only the 1 loss, coming at the hands of the current 2nd last place team in the league, the Celtics. But of their 26 wins over that span 10 of those wins have been big, coming against teams that have above .500 records and are Top-6 in their respective Conferences – Knicks (3 times), Pistons (3 times), Raptors, Thunder, Heat, and Spurs.
- Pelicans have been impressive in their last 31 with only the 1 loss to the Spurs but of their 30 wins over that span only 6 of those wins come against teams that have above .500 records – Pistons, Grizzlies, Thunder, Knicks, Spurs and Raptors.
- Thunder have dropped down in my Top 10 this time around just because they have 5 loses in their last 16 (since my last post), all being to other top teams in the league – 76ers, Pelicans, Kings (2 times), and the Knicks. All of these teams have maintained their position in the standings or moved up. It is key to note that the Thunder, although dropped down my rankings have only lost twice to teams with a sub .500 record.
- There are currently 17 sub .500 teams in the DTNBA standings, and 10 in the NBA currently as a comparison.
That’s all for now!
Regards,
JBS
